WORLD and SETTING
  • Glyndael: Town where the campaign originates
  • Trader’s Post: Hamlet in the forest; one day ride by caravan (1/2 day just by horse) between Glyndael and Crystal Bay
  • Crystal Bay: Capitol city and major trading seaport
  • Scarsdael: Small town east of Glyndael, a part of the Fertility Circle
  • The Rift: Mysterious 1000 foot deep “break” in the land with a vast desert beyond
  • Southern Realm: Country to the south, tense relations with Crystal Bay
  • New Night: City-State, formerly part of Southern Realm
SYSTEM and HOME RULES
  • Hackmaster Basic with a homebrew world setting, originally created in 2002 for a D&D 3e campaign
    • Racial: All races mature at approximately the same rate, but upon hitting maturity they “decay” at differing rates; average lifespans are: Orc 60, Human 75, Halfling 105, Dwarf 165, Elf 285
    • Relations: Racial relations vary in this world depending on the nations and communities where they live and/or adventure
  • Player Creation
    • Quirks/Flaws: all characters have 3 randomly rolled quirks/flaws from Hackmaster 4e, which gives modified bonuses in this game
  • Skill Progression
    • Leveling: each new level on each skill you have successfully used at least one time (more successes are irrelevant in this situation), roll percentage; if you roll higher than your current skill level, then roll 1d4 and add it to that skill; this does not count against your building point rewards
  • RL Puzzles: At any time a real life challenge can occur for the players when they are trying to accomplish something in-game
    • For Example: In the first session of this game there was a magical puzzle on a pedestal that their characters needed to solve; all the players rolled d100% based on the skills of their character and they received a bonus; a Tangram puzzle was the challenge and they had two minutes to solve it; their character’s earned bonus allowed several pieces to be placed in the correct spot before the timer began
